Eisenhower State Park sits right on the lake here — bluffs, swim access, hiking, and a marina inside the park — so you get structured lake access without owning the logistics yourself. It's the easiest on-ramp to Texoma for a first-timer or a crew with young kids.

The rental stock mixes in-town historic houses with lake houses toward the park side. In-town stays run noticeably gentler than the Pottsboro waterfront, and for a couples weekend or a two-family trip that's half museums-and-Main-Street anyway, that's the right trade.

Eisenhower's birthplace is preserved as a state historic site in town — a modest frame house, an easy hour of a visit — and it pairs naturally with a park afternoon. This is the Texoma trip that works even in the shoulder months when the water's too cold to matter.

Gordonville anchors the northwest Texas-side coves — the stretch of Texoma where the shoreline breaks into protected inlets, the boat traffic thins, and the lake gets quiet enough to hear it. This is where families who want the water without the marina scene end up, usually on their second Texoma trip.

The cabin stock here runs newer than the rest of the lake — lake-house developments and individual builds from the last couple of decades, which in practice means better kitchens, real bunk rooms, and docks designed for swimming off of rather than just tying up to.

Cove water is the point. Protected inlets stay calm when the main lake is churning with weekend wakes, which makes this the side for paddleboards, first-time skiers, and kids swimming off the dock all afternoon. You give up walk-to-a-restaurant entirely; you gain a lake that feels like yours.

Provision on the drive in — the store options out here are minimal by design. Groceries from the last real town you pass through, and plan to cook. That's not a flaw in the trip; it is the trip.
